New York Legends Sportsbar & Restaurant

It was my Canadian friend’s birthday the weekend before I went back to the UK for Christmas – and of course we had to celebrate! I was super excited as it was a really nice birthday and send off before everyone left for the holidays. I wasn’t expecting much from the food at New York Legends Sportsbar & Restaurant – located in the centre of Linköping but I was pleasantly surprised. I was mostly pessimistic about the food due to the not so good experience at IKEA a few days earlier. I was feeling quite ‘adventurous’ so me and the birthday boy decided to order the ribs and fries – and oh my goodness it was AMAZING. Or maybe it was just amazing because I was super hungry? Who knows… but I will be definitely going back to give it a try again and loved the atmosphere in the bar. The others opted for the burgers instead  – which they said were good too, as you can see below. Overall, it was super nice birthday gathering and great to spend time with some of my closest friends in Linköping!

Last Week in Linköping Before Christmas

My last week in Linköping before Christmas was SO busy – as I didn’t just have a seminar assignment to complete, I also was preparing to move from Lambohov to Ryd. Thankfully, everything worked out fine and I managed to completely move out – I’m super happy that I’ll be living in Ryd now. Lambohov was okay but I wouldn’t call it a student-friendly area – it is mostly a family neighbourhood and I found myself always in Ryd, so I just thought okay its definitely time for me to move! Especially since Lambohov to Ryd and the town centre is so far to bike. I’m looking forward to returning back to Linköping at the end of January – as it will be like a fresh start living in a new area!

I had absolutely no help while moving from Lambohov to Ryd – mostly because I didn’t want to bother my friends as they were busy with their own lives. But it was actually not very difficult as I did pack ‘light’ when I first moved to Sweden. So I spent a whole day packing all my things, ordered a taxi which was only 250 sek and it was really that simple. I used the ‘Linköping Taxi’ app to order a taxi and had to call to request a bigger car since I had quite a big suitcase – the taxi driver was so helpful and I would definitely recommend this taxi company if you’re thinking about moving or are just stranded somewhere Linköping!

Swedish Christmas Dinner in IKEA

IKEA is the go-to place to get home goods – and it is also know for it’s amazing ‘traditional’ Swedish meatballs which I love! So when my friends suggested going to IKEA to have a Christmas dinner before many of us go home for the holidays – I was of course super excited. All day I was looking forward to this all you can eat Christmas buffet – and unfortunately I was quite disappointed. I do not know why I thought a Swedish Christmas dinner was going to be like a British Christmas dinner – but I was hoping it would be at least a bit similar but NO. A Swedish Christmas dinner is completely different as I discovered – this buffet was basically a tasting test for me with many failures and few successes. I would say it would be a good experience for everyone to try but personally I would not try it again – as all the favours were so ‘unique’ and I did not enjoy most of the dishes. I think for me personally I will just stick to the Swedish meatballs when I decide to eat in IKEA. But that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the experience – as it is always interesting to try food from another culture – which is part of studying and living abroad!

Snowy Days in Linköping

This week in Linköping has been so pretty – the snow does really make everywhere look beautiful and also brings your mood up. We finally had some ‘proper’ snow compared to the snow fall in November – and although it did look very nice I couldn’t bike all the way from Lambohov to the university since it was VERY icy. Apparently, this snow and weather is ‘nothing’ compared to how its going to be in January and February… which is quite worrying. As I really don’t know how I’m going to cope. But thankfully, I’m moving to Ryd in January – so the walk will be quicker to university and I’ll be closer to all my amazing friends (as Ryd is basically student central).

The rest of this week I’m going to prepare to go back home to England – I’m super excited to see all my loved ones and be in a familiar setting. I actually won’t be back to Linköping for about month… since semester two doesn’t start till the 22nd January and it’s my birthday on the 16th January. I will miss Linköping – but I’m just going to spend the next few days enjoying the town, my friends’ company and making the most of the snow of course, as it hardly snows in England.

Christmas Market in Gamla Linköping

Like I said in my previous post.. this week has been VERY festive. So this weekend me and some friend’s decided to take a trip to the Christmas market in Gamla Linköping. It was such a good afternoon enjoying everyone’s company, eating donuts, browsing for Christmas presents and drinking ‘glögg’. Also, one of our friend’s brought a professional camera and we all of course took advantage and became models (seriously… no joke). This was super cute as my Azerbaijan friend always complains that we never take any pictures all together – but I think that’s usually because we are having too fun, so we do not have time for pictures! But this weekend we had fun, plus time to take pictures – and I will always have these pictures as a reminder of when I went to a Swedish Christmas Market with my MIER classmates – who are basically family now (soppy but true).
